For my entire Personal Training career I have always promised myself that I would be open and honest to everyone. I never wanted to be portrayed as having an alter-ego, I didn’t want there to be a difference between my Fitness Life and Personal Life and I wanted to show my clients that I am on the very same journey as they are.
Unfortunately, as the Personal Training Industry grows we are seeing more and more “fitness enthusiasts” or “influencers” putting a fake name to everything.
What do I mean by that?
We constantly see great bodies, flawless diets, the “I don’t drink, I’m perfect” blah blah content and people promoting brands and products and a lifestyle that isn’t real. In my opinion that is WRONG! It provides a misleading representation of the fitness community and makes us all look like robots.
I’m not saying its bad to have a perfect diet and not drink, I think its brilliant! but we need to look past the filtered & staged Instagram post that took 4 hours to “get right” and realise that the majority of these famous fitness celebrities don’t actually eat the bright and colourful Acai Bowls with perfectly presented shredded coconut every morning and they do still enjoy a nice drop of alcohol every now and then and still do all the normal human activities that we do, every day.
When I first got my foot in the industry I always followed more “real” trainers and athletes. I could relate to them more, I knew that it was normal to not get things right the first time and it made me really enjoy the process. I think it is unfair to only post the good stuff. We should be posting all the unfair stuff and the failures we experience along the way to help people realise the truth behind it all. It also makes people feel comfortable knowing that someone they look up to struggled with the same things you do.
Do I like a Drink? Scotch on the rocks, thanks! and you know what, I’ll have a Romeo Y Julietta cigar with that to! It’s all about everything in moderation and keeping life balanced. I know that healthy foods and frequent exercise is 90% of my life, the difference with me, I tell you all about the other 10%. Others wont.
